Applications for Registration

From 18 September 2004, to practice as an osteopath you must be registered with the Osteopathic Council. You must also have a current practising certificate.

You may apply for registration on the basis that:

You have a Master of Osteopathy, conferred by Unitec Te Whare Wananga o Wairaka; OR

You have passed the Osteopathic Council examination; OR

You are registered with an equivalent Australian registration authority (excepting Western Australia).

The Osteopathic Council does not, at present, recognise any other qualification. If you have an osteopathic qualification gained in any country other than New Zealand or Australia and are interested in working in New Zealand you are invited to visit the "Examinations" section of this website.

Applicants holding NZ qualification, or who have passed the Osteopathic Council examination.

Applicants who have a Master of Osteopathy conferred by Unitec or who have passed the Osteopathic Council examination should complete an Application Form and Consent to Disclosure of Information. The following documents have been prepared to assist applicants in completing the Application Form.

Registration is not automatically granted. The Osteopathic Council must be confident that you are competent and fit for registration. The information you give in your application form will assist the Council in its decision-making.

Applicants who are currently registered in Australia

Applicants who are registered with an Australian registration authority and who wish to practise in New Zealand are invited to visit the "Australian Registered Applicants" section of this website.
