Professional Development Requirements for 2008
These are the Professional Development Requirements for the CPD period 1 January 2008 to 31 December 2008.
The criteria for this period is:
- 25 credits are required. (At least 15 credits are required to be Category One credits)
- 2 Core Competency Programme courses must be completed. (In 2008 these are Legal Requirements and Professional Management).
- A First Aid certificate valid as at 31 December 2008.
All learning events attended, and for which Osteopathic Council CPD credit is intended to be sought, must be approved by the Osteopathic Council. It is usual for event organisers or attending practitioners to seek CPD approval prior to attendance, although in some circumstances retrospective approval will be given. Please see the Course Providers page for further information on how to seek approval.
Credits will be divided into Two Categories:
Category 1 credits:
Formal learning activities, seminars, workshops, attendance at lectures on topics relevant to osteopathic practice, full first aid course.
Core competency courses are Category 1 CPD.
1 hour of learning equals 1 CPD credit.
Category 2 credits:
Informal learning activities. For example, teaching, maintenance of first aid certificate, formal peer group meetings.
1 hour of learning equals 0.5 CPD credit (except for formal peer group meetings, 1 hour = 1 credit).
How many credits you can get from each category:
Of the 25 credits required, a minimum of 15 credits must be obtained from Category 1.
YOU MUST HAVE ACHIEVED AT LEAST 25 CPD CREDITS (INCLUDING THE TWO MANDATORY CORE COMPETENCY COURSES) BY 31 DECEMBER IN ORDER TO GAIN AN ANNUAL PRACTISING CERTIFICATE.
